The color of your kitchen should be exciting but not overwhelming with a reflection of your personal style and taste. It is important to consider whether you are going to use kitchen appliances that will add to the appearance of your kitchen or if you will use more sedate finishes, opting for smaller touches to give you the pops of color that you need. From refrigerators to stoves and smaller appliances like microwaves and others, there are several choices to look at. These include:

• Neutral colors like white, black, and almond
• Metallic finishes like silver or gray
• Minimal schemes like glass fronts
• Bright colors

How do any of these fit into your kitchen color scheme?

Neutral Colors

The easiest colors to find in everything from walls, flooring and all of your kitchen appliances, neutrals can be a great way to anchor your kitchen design. Neutrals allow you to add pops of colors and patterns with small touches that can be changed economically as often as you would like. You can even change the look of the kitchen for the holidays or for special occasions.

Metallic Finishes

Brushed silver or matte gray finishes can also play in to a minimalist theme with excellent results. Keep in mind that highly polished finished on kitchen appliances will show all fingers and smudges while a matte finish will hide them much more.

Minimal Schemes

For even the most minimalist of kitchen appliance schemes, a glass front refrigerator can be a good choice. A microwave oven that fits well in this theme is a small, flat panel model without any dials or other features that stand out.

Bright Colors

From reds to greens to pinks and neon colors, you can get all of your kitchen appliances, including your microwave oven in fantastically bright colors that will fit into your kitchen scheme. If you have an all-white kitchen, a pop of color in the form of your bright red and glossy microwave oven can be the satisfying but not overwhelming statement that you want to make. If you cannot find these colored microwave ovens or other kitchen appliances in your local stores, you may have to order them specifically online.

Kitchen Appliances and Function

While your appliances can be a great touch for your kitchen color scheme, there is no need to buy items that you will never or only rarely use for looks alone. However, for those items that you will not only use often but leave sitting out on your counter, keep in mind how they can add to or detract from your kitchen color scheme and theme. This is especially important in a kitchen that is smaller where the wrong colored kitchen appliance can stand out.

Finally, if you have a lot of kitchen appliances, you might display them on a shelf or in a particular area of the kitchen, making them even more visually important.
