Small appliances of the kitchen are often referred to some of the most commonly used appliances which can be used over the table and at countertops. The items such as electric pressure cooker, electric steamers, indoor grills, pressure cookers, slow cookers, rice cookers and many more are included under the head of small appliances. These appliances are often contradicted with major appliances which are stationary type and cannot be easily moved. Most of the small kitchen appliances are powered by electricity featuring a permanent electric cord. Many of the hand held kitchen appliances are battery powered.

For those who love to eat and cook at home, the kitchen becomes an important place, and it needs to be well equipped with ingredients, foodstuff and appliances of various kinds, each performing a specific set of functions. Home cooking is advised by medical and health professionals as well since it is healthier and more hygienic. Preparing food to feed the family can be a time consuming process requiring hours of work in the kitchen. In fact there was a time about sixty years ago, when women did not work beyond the home and spent the whole day in the kitchen. This changed once machines took over the work done by human beings and some of these mechanized contraptions found their way into the kitchen as well, providing women with much needed relief and assistance in tougher, more strenuous and tiring tasks. Thus we find big and small kitchen appliances in every household, facilitating the cooking process.
